PRECONDITION on marginMm: the bar's end tick labels are centred on their
ticks, so roughly half a label hangs past each end of the bar. The margin has
to absorb that. Zero (or a very small) margin is accepted by the guard below
and lays the band out correctly, but the outermost label can then sit partly
off the page. The export path passes VIEW_PDF_MARGIN_MM (10 mm), which is
comfortably more than any label produced by the 1-2-5 division sequence.
This is a cosmetic bound only: it does not move the bar, so a division still
measures exactly its labelled world length whatever the margin.
